Former Bellator middleweight world champion Gegard Mousasi (49-8-2) aims to position himself for a title shot today as he faces Fabian Edwards (11-2) in the main event of Bellator 296 from Accor Arena in Paris, France. In the co-main event, Mansour Barnaoui (20-4) takes on former Bellator lightweight champion Brett Primus (11-3) in the quarterfinals of the Bellator Lightweight World Grand Prix with the winner scheduled to face current lightweight champion Usman Nurmagomedov in the semifinals later this year. Primus replaced Sidney Outlaw in the World Grand Prix after Outlaw tested positive for a banned substance and was suspended for six months.

Mousasi won the Bellator middleweight title back in May of 2018 by knocking out Rafael Carvalho but lost the belt in his second title defense to Rafael Lovato Jr 13 months later. In October of 2020 Mousasi reclaimed the title in a unanimous decision victory over Douglas Lima holding onto the championship until June of 2022 when Johnny Eblen defeated Mousasi at Bellator 282.
Elsewhere on the card, fourth-ranked middleweight Douglas Lima (32-11) looks to snap a four-bout losing skid as he faces Costello van Steenis (14-2).
French lightweight Thibault Gouti (16-6) takes on Kane Mousah (14-4) who is looking for his third win in four fights.
